Lock Replacement & Upgrade Services

Euro Cylinder Replacement — uPVC, Composite & Aluminium Doors

The Euro cylinder is the oval-shaped lock in the centre of most uPVC, composite and aluminium doors. It’s what the key turns. When a cylinder is worn, lost with keys, or has been compromised, we replace it in under 20 minutes.

Standard replacement: a basic kitemarked Euro cylinder, available in all common sizes (35/35, 35/45, 40/40, 45/45, 45/55) — suitable where security is adequate but functionality is the issue.

High-security anti-snap replacement: a 3-star TS007 cylinder (see below) — our strong recommendation for every uPVC or composite front door.

Price: from £49 + cylinder (standard £15–£25, anti-snap £45–£90 depending on brand).

Anti-Snap Cylinder Upgrade (3-Star TS007)

Standard Euro cylinders can be snapped with tools available in any DIY store. The snap point is a narrow section in the centre of the cylinder — and once snapped, the mechanism can be turned by hand in seconds. This is the most common method of forced entry on uPVC and composite doors in the UK.

A 3-star TS007 anti-snap cylinder is specifically engineered against this. When attacked, a sacrificial outer section breaks away while the inner security core stays intact and the door stays locked. The three stars also represent:

  • ⭐ Anti-snap (TS007)
  • ⭐ Anti-pick (SS312)
  • ⭐ Anti-bump (Sold Secure)

This is the grade most insurance policies now specify for Euro-cylinder doors. If your policy requires “TS007 3-star” and your cylinder doesn’t have it, a claim following a snap attack can be reduced or refused.

Price: from £69 + cylinder. Time: under 20 minutes.

Which Anti-Snap Cylinder Brand Should I Choose?

This is the most common question we get on this job. Here’s an honest comparison of the three brands we stock:

BrandStar ratingUnique featureBest forGuide cost
Avocet ABSTS007 3-starFirst anti-snap design; proven track record; very widely stockedGood all-round residential security£45–£55
Brisant UltionTS007 3-starPatented Sold Secure Diamond; 16-pin Modulo engine; market-leading pick resistanceHighest residential security£60–£90
Mul-T-Lock MT5+TS007 3-starRestricted keyway — keys can’t be copied without authorisationHigh-security residential + commercial£70–£90

All three pass the same TS007 3-star test. The Ultion is the most pick-resistant; the Mul-T-Lock the most copy-resistant; the ABS the most cost-effective. We carry all three and will advise which makes sense for your door and your budget — with no pressure toward the more expensive option.

BS3621 Mortice Deadlock — Timber Doors

Timber front and back doors require a BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlock set into the door body. This is not a recommendation — it is the explicit standard written into the majority of UK household insurance policies for final-exit timber doors. A non-BS lock invalidates your insurance cover for that entry point.

We supply and fit BS3621 mortice deadlocks in all standard case sizes and backsets. For period and Victorian doors with unusual mortice pockets, we carry a range of sizes and can source non-standard cases where needed.

Price: from £99 + lock. Time: 30–60 minutes.

Rim Nightlatch (Yale-Type) Replacement

The rim nightlatch on a timber door — the lock that engages automatically when the door closes — uses a replaceable rim cylinder. If the latch is faulty, intermittent, or the keys are lost, we replace the cylinder (keeping the existing body) or swap the entire unit if the latch or case is worn.

Price: from £49 + parts. Time: 20–30 minutes.

Multipoint Lock Cylinder — Keyed Different or Lost Keys

On uPVC and composite multipoint locking doors, the cylinder is separate from the gearbox and strip. Where only the cylinder needs replacing (no mechanism failure), this is a standalone 20-minute job.

Price: from £49 + cylinder.

Moving House — Full Lock Change Package

The most common reason people call us after moving. You don’t know how many copies of the old keys exist — previous owners, their family, cleaners, estate agents, tradespeople. A full external cylinder change on moving day is the only way to guarantee sole access to your home.

3-door package (front, back, garage/side): from £149 all-in 5-door package: from £249 all-in

Includes all cylinders, all new keys cut, and a 12-month parts guarantee.

Does My Lock Comply With My Insurance Policy?

This is the question most people don’t ask until after a claim is refused. Here’s the short version:

uPVC & composite doors: your insurer most likely requires a TS007 3-star cylinder or a kitemarked cylinder at minimum. Check your policy schedule under “security requirements” or “locks.” If it says “3-star” or “TS007” and your cylinder doesn’t have the three-star marking on the face, you may not be covered.

Timber front doors: your insurer almost certainly requires a BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlock on your final-exit timber door. A 2-lever or non-British-Standard lock is almost universally non-compliant.

Timber back doors and side doors: usually require a BS3621 deadlock or a BS EN 12209 equivalent. Check your schedule.

Not sure? Call us with your insurer’s name and we’ll tell you what their standard wording requires — or read your policy schedule section on “locks” and “security.”

We never fit below-standard locks. Every cylinder we install is kitemarked; every mortice lock is BS3621. You’ll never find yourself non-compliant after a job with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a lock change cost in the UK?

A standard Euro cylinder replacement costs from £49 plus the cylinder (£15–£25 for standard, £45–£90 for anti-snap).

A BS3621 mortice lock on a timber door costs from £99 plus parts.

A full moving-house lock change covering three doors costs from £149 all-in. All prices are fixed and quoted before we travel.

What is the best anti-snap lock in the UK?

All three brands we stock — Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion and Mul-T-Lock MT5+ — pass the TS007 3-star standard.

The Ultion offers the highest pick resistance with its 16-pin Modulo engine.

The Mul-T-Lock MT5+ offers the best key-copy control with its restricted patented keyway.

The ABS is the most cost-effective. We carry all three and will advise honestly based on your door, your budget and your security priorities.

Do I need to change my locks when moving house?

Yes — and on moving day, not after. Previous owners, estate agents, contractors and family members may all have copies of the old keys.

A full cylinder change on moving day is the only way to guarantee sole access to your new home.

Our 3-door moving house package costs from £149 all-in including all new cylinders and keys.

Does my lock comply with my home insurance?

uPVC and composite doors: check your policy for “TS007 3-star” requirements.

Timber front doors: check for “BS3621” requirements.

If your current locks don’t meet these standards and you suffer a burglary, your insurer can reduce or refuse your claim.

Call us with your insurer’s name and we’ll confirm what standard they require.

How long does a lock change take?

A Euro cylinder replacement takes 15–20 minutes. A BS3621 mortice lock on a timber door takes 30–60 minutes.

A full 3-door moving house package typically takes 60–90 minutes. Most jobs are done in a single visit.

Can you change my lock without a key?

Yes — if you’re locked out, we gain non-destructive entry first, then change the lock the same visit.

Lost-keys cylinder changes with no access to the property are one of our most common jobs.

Are anti-snap locks worth it?

Yes, without question. A standard Euro cylinder can be snapped in under 30 seconds with widely available tools.

A 3-star anti-snap cylinder costs from £69 fitted and takes 20 minutes to install.

For a door that will be used for the next 10–15 years, it’s the highest-value security improvement you can make — and it’s what your insurance policy increasingly requires.

What brands of lock do you fit?

Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion, Mul-T-Lock MT5+ (anti-snap cylinders); Yale, ERA, Chubb (standard cylinders and mortice locks); Maco, GU, Fullex, Winkhaus (multipoint cylinders and mechanisms).

If you have a specific brand requirement, call and we’ll confirm availability.
