uPVC Door Repair Bath — Same Day, From £49, No Call-Out Fee

Last updated: June 2026 · Prices verified

Your door isn’t broken. The mechanism inside it is.

A uPVC handle that spins loosely, won’t lift, or a door that won’t lock at all — in almost every case the frame and panel are fine and a single internal component has failed. Replacing it costs from £49 and takes under an hour. A replacement door costs £800–£2,500 and takes weeks.

We repair uPVC doors and windows across Bath, West Wiltshire and the surrounding Somerset towns, carrying gearboxes, multipoint strips, handles and cylinders for all major systems — Yale, ERA, Maco, GU, Fullex, Mila, Winkhaus and Avocet — on every van.

The Most Common uPVC Faults in Bath Homes

Handle Spins or Won’t Lift — Failed Gearbox

The most common uPVC repair we attend. The gearbox behind the handle wears out after roughly 7–15 years of daily use and eventually shatters internally, often with an audible crack. Once it goes, nothing along the door edge moves.

Don’t force it. Forcing a failed gearbox can jam the hooks in the locked position, turning a straightforward swap into a full non-destructive entry job.

From £99 + parts. Under 1 hour.

Door Won’t Lock — Alignment or Multipoint Strip

If the hooks and rollers aren’t meeting the keeps on the frame, the cause is more often a dropped door than a broken mechanism. Many “broken lock” call-outs are resolved with a hinge adjustment and keep reset alone. Where the strip is genuinely damaged, we carry full-length mechanisms for all common door heights.

Alignment from £49 · gearbox from £99 + parts · full strip from £149 + parts.

Door Won’t Lock in Hot Weather

uPVC expands in heat. A door that locks fine in spring but jams every warm spell is sitting too tight in the frame — and forcing the handle during those periods is exactly what shatters gearboxes. A professional realignment gives year-round clearance.

From £49.

Dropped Door — Dragging, Catching, Stiff to Lock

Bath’s steep-sided housing and older 1960s–80s stock sees a lot of settlement-related door drop. Left unfixed, it destroys the gearbox and strip. Hinge adjustment is always the first thing we try — often the only fix needed.

From £49. Under 30 minutes.

Worn Cylinder

A cylinder that’s stiff, intermittently refuses the key, or turns without operating the lock needs replacing — a 20-minute job. Standard and 3-star anti-snap TS007 cylinders carried in all common sizes.

From £49 + parts.

Bath Housing Stock — Where the uPVC Is

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage city, and much of the central Georgian stock across BA1 and BA2 sits within conservation areas where uPVC replacement doors are restricted or prohibited — those properties typically retain timber doors with mortice locks. (We handle those too — see composite and wooden door repairs.)

The uPVC work is concentrated in the outer estates and the surrounding towns:

  • Twerton, Whiteway, Southdown and Foxhill (BA2) — extensive post-war and 1960s–70s council-built stock, almost entirely uPVC-replaced. High density of ageing gearboxes now reaching failure age
  • Odd Down and Combe Down (BA2) — mixed 1930s–80s housing with widespread uPVC front and back doors
  • Larkhall and Fairfield Park (BA1) — Victorian terraces with uPVC rear and side doors fitted in the 1990s–2000s
  • Peasedown St John and Paulton (BA2) — large modern and former-mining housing stock, heavy uPVC density
  • Trowbridge and Hilperton (BA14) — the largest concentration of uPVC doors in our Bath coverage. Extensive 1970s–2000s estates; gearbox and dropped-door jobs are constant here
  • Westbury and Dilton Marsh (BA13) — similar profile; mixed older mechanisms including Fullex and Mila
  • Bradford-on-Avon and Winsley (BA15) — mixed stone and modern; uPVC mostly on rear doors and newer builds
  • Warminster (BA12), Shepton Mallet (BA4), Glastonbury and Street (BA6) — modern estate housing with standard multipoint systems

If your mechanism is discontinued, we retrofit modern equivalents — including systems other companies turn away.

uPVC Window Repairs

Ground-floor windows are a burglary target and an insurance compliance point. We repair and replace:

  • Espagnolette locking strips — the full mechanism behind the handle, all major brands
  • Window handles — replaced with key-locking versions where requested
  • Friction stays (hinges) — restoring a proper draught-free seal
  • Window cylinders and barrels

From £39 + parts. Usually under 30 minutes per window.

Anti-Snap Upgrade — Worth Doing While We’re There

Standard Euro cylinders on uPVC and composite doors can be snapped in under 30 seconds with widely available tools — the most common forced-entry method on these doors in the UK. While we’re on site for any repair, we’ll upgrade to a 3-star TS007 anti-snap cylinder (Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion or Mul-T-Lock) for minimal extra cost.

From £69 + parts as an add-on to any visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won’t my uPVC door lock in Bath?

The three most common causes are a failed gearbox (if the handle spins or flops loosely), a dropped door putting the hooks out of alignment with the keeps (if the door drags or you have to lift the handle hard), or a worn multipoint strip. All are same-day repairs from £49.

How much does uPVC door repair cost in Bath?

A hinge alignment costs from £49. A gearbox replacement from £99 plus parts (gearboxes typically £30–£80). A full multipoint strip from £149 plus parts. Fixed total confirmed on the phone before travelling — no call-out fee.

How long does a uPVC door repair take?

Most repairs take 30–60 minutes. A hinge adjustment is usually under 30 minutes; a gearbox swap under an hour; a full strip 1–2 hours. Over 95% of jobs are completed in a single visit.

My handle won’t lift up — is it the handle?

Rarely. A handle that won’t lift almost always means a failing gearbox or a door alignment issue, not the handle itself. Forcing it is what finishes the gearbox off — stop using it and call us.

Can I fit a uPVC door in a Bath conservation area?

Often not — much of central Bath’s Georgian stock sits within conservation areas and World Heritage designations where uPVC replacement is restricted or prohibited. Check with Bath and North East Somerset Council before replacing anything. We repair uPVC where it exists, and fit BS3621 British Standard mortice locks on the timber doors those properties retain.

Do you cover Trowbridge, Westbury and Bradford-on-Avon?

Yes — we cover Bath (BA1, BA2) and the wider West Wiltshire and Somerset area including Trowbridge, Hilperton, Westbury, Bradford-on-Avon, Warminster, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Street and Wincanton.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing my uPVC door?

Almost always. The frame and profile last 30+ years; the internal mechanisms are inexpensive wear items. Repair costs £49–£199 plus parts and takes an hour. A new door costs £800–£2,500 with weeks of lead time.

Do you repair uPVC windows too?

Yes — espagnolette locking strips, handles, friction stays and barrels, all major brands, from £39 plus parts, usually under 30 minutes per window.
