Lock Changes for Landlords — Between Tenancies, HMOs and Shared Houses
When a tenant moves out, you have no way of knowing how many copies of the keys exist. Changing the locks between tenancies is the simplest way to protect your property, your next tenant and your insurance. Local 24/7 Locksmith changes locks for landlords across Birmingham, the West Midlands and every area we cover — usually on the day you need it, at a fixed price agreed in advance.

What We Do for Landlords
- Lock changes between tenancies — new Euro cylinders on uPVC and composite doors from £49 plus parts, or BS3621 mortice locks on timber doors from £99 plus parts. Three external doors from £149 on our moving-house package.
- Anti-snap upgrades — 3-star TS007 cylinders from £69 plus parts, the upgrade most insurers and letting agents now expect on Euro-cylinder doors.
- Keyed-alike cylinders — one key that opens the front and back doors, so your tenants are not juggling a ring of keys.
- Shared houses and HMOs — locks on the communal front door plus individual room doors, so each tenant has their own key and access to shared areas.
- Repairs found at inspection — stiff uPVC handles, dropped doors, failing gearboxes and broken window locks, fixed before the next tenant moves in.
- Emergency call-outs for your tenants — lockouts, snapped keys and break-ins, 24 hours a day.
Who Can Authorise the Work
We only change locks with the authority of the owner or their managing agent. When you book, we will ask for your name, the property address and confirmation that you own or manage it. If the work is arranged by a letting agent, we take instructions from the agent. Tenants cannot instruct us to change the locks on a property they rent without the landlord’s agreement.
Between Tenancies: A Simple Checklist
- Change every external lock — front, back and any side or garage door that leads into the house
- Check window locks, especially ground-floor and accessible windows
- Make sure Euro cylinders are anti-snap rated (TS007 3-star or equivalent)
- Note the lock standard on your invoice for your insurance and inventory records
- Hand new keys to the incoming tenant and record how many sets you issued
Invoices and Paperwork
Every job comes with an itemised invoice showing the property address, the locks fitted and their standard (for example TS007 3-star or BS3621). It is ready for your records, your accountant and your insurer. Parts carry a 12-month guarantee and our workmanship is guaranteed for 90 days.
Frequently Asked Questions — Landlord Lock Changes
Should I change the locks between every tenancy?
Yes, it is good practice. You cannot know how many keys were copied during a tenancy, and a lock change is cheap compared with the cost of a burglary or an insurance dispute.
How much does a landlord lock change cost?
A Euro cylinder change starts from £49 plus parts per door, an anti-snap TS007 3-star cylinder from £69 plus parts, and three external doors from £149 on our moving-house package. You get a fixed price before we attend.
Can you fit locks so one key opens every door?
Yes. We fit keyed-alike cylinders so the front and back doors work on the same key.
Can my tenant ask you to change the locks?
Not without your agreement. We take instructions from the owner or the managing agent, and we will ask for confirmation before changing any lock on a rented property.
Do you work on HMOs and shared houses?
Yes. We change communal door locks and individual room locks, and can fit cylinders so each tenant has their own room key plus access to shared areas.
