What to Do Right Now — Step by Step
If you’ve just discovered a break-in, follow these steps before calling us:
1. Don’t go inside if you think someone is still there.
Call 999 from outside or from a neighbour’s property.
2. Call the police. Dial 999 if the intruder may still be present. Dial 101 if they’ve gone. You’ll be given a Crime Reference Number — keep it. You’ll need it for your insurance claim and it costs nothing.
3. Don’t touch anything at the entry point.
Leave the broken door, window or damaged lock exactly as it is until the police have attended and confirmed they don’t need to examine it for forensic evidence. Photographing it yourself is fine.
4. Once the police have cleared the scene, call us.
We secure the property: boarding up any smashed glass, replacing forced locks, repairing damaged mechanisms — all same visit, all with a written invoice for your insurer.
5. Contact your insurer. Notify them within 24 hours where possible.
Use our written invoice (which itemises every part and standard of lock fitted) to support your claim. All locks we fit meet or exceed the standard your policy requires.
Our Burglary Repair Services
Emergency Boarding Up
If a window, glass door panel, side light or shopfront has been smashed to gain entry, we board it up the same day using heavy-gauge timber and fixings — making the opening watertight, draught-proof and physically secure until a glazier can replace the glass. We work cleanly and avoid additional damage to existing frames or brickwork.
Boarding is a temporary measure — it secures the property; it doesn’t replace the glass. We’ll recommend a glazier if you don’t already have one.
Price: from £59 per panel.
Lock Replacement — Forced or Snapped Cylinders
The most common entry methods are cylinder snapping (composite and uPVC doors), frame crowbarring (timber doors), and kicking the door at the latch point. In every case the lock hardware needs replacing before the property is secure again — the existing damaged parts cannot be re-used.
We fit new hardware immediately:
- uPVC and composite doors: 3-star TS007 anti-snap cylinders (Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion or Mul-T-Lock) — the same attack can’t succeed on the new cylinder
- Timber doors: BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlocks and BS-grade rim nightlatches
- Multipoint mechanisms: where the gearbox or strip has been damaged by forcing, we repair or replace the mechanism same-visit where parts allow
Price: from £69 + parts per door.
Door Frame & Mechanism Repairs
A kicked-in door or crowbarred frame often splits the keep, buckles the strike plate, or cracks the door frame itself. Where the damage is to the locking hardware and frame surround (rather than the door panel or structural frame), we repair or reinforce it same-day: replacing keeps, fitting heavy-duty London bars or Birmingham bars across the frame, and ensuring the door closes and locks cleanly.
Where structural frame damage needs a joiner, we’ll be straight with you — and can recommend one.
Price: from £79 including reinforced keep and bar where needed.
Full Same-Day Secure-Up Package
For properties where multiple points were forced — front door and a window, or multiple doors — we assess, prioritise and secure everything in a single visit. One price, one invoice, one job.
Combined boarding + lock change + frame repair: from £149. Exact quote given before we set off based on your description or photos.
Stolen Keys — Full Lock Change
If keys were taken from inside the property during the burglary, or if the intruder had a key copy, the existing cylinders must be replaced — not just the lock that was forced. Any door the stolen keys fit is a risk. We change every external cylinder affected, supply new keys, and make the old set permanently useless.
Price: from £49 per cylinder + parts.

After We’ve Secured the Property — What Happens Next
Your insurance claim. We provide a full itemised written invoice specifying every lock fitted, its British Standard grade, and the work carried out. This is the document your insurer needs. All locks we fit meet or exceed BS3621 (timber) and TS007 (uPVC/composite) — the standards written into the majority of UK household and commercial insurance policies. We’ve never had a claim refused on the grounds of non-compliant locks after our work.
A security assessment. Once the immediate repairs are done, we’ll walk the property with you and point out any other vulnerabilities — at no charge. Not a sales exercise; a practical assessment of what made this property a target and what would deter a repeat visit.
Upgrading weak points. The most common post-burglary upgrades we recommend:
- Anti-snap cylinder on any remaining standard-cylinder doors
- Reinforced strike plates on door frames with shallow keeps
- Window locks where ground-floor windows have no key lock
- Additional security on rear or side access doors (often more vulnerable than front doors)
None of these are mandatory — we’ll explain the risk level of each and let you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do immediately after a burglary?
Don’t enter if you think someone is still inside — call 999. Once safe, call 101 to report it and get a Crime Reference Number.
Don’t disturb the entry point until police have attended. Then call us to secure the property.
You can photograph the damage yourself while waiting.
Will my insurance pay for boarding up and lock changes after a burglary?
In most cases yes — emergency security repairs following a confirmed break-in are covered under the buildings or contents section of most home insurance policies.
You’ll need a Crime Reference Number from the police and an itemised invoice from us specifying the work and lock standards.
We provide both as standard.
How much does emergency boarding up cost?
Our boarding up starts from £59 per panel.
A combined same-day secure-up package including boarding, lock change and frame repair starts from £149.
All prices are fixed before we travel — no call-out fee.
Can the same break-in method be used again after you’ve secured the property?
No — we replace forced or snapped cylinders with 3-star TS007 anti-snap versions that defeat the snap attack method.
Crowbarred frames are reinforced with heavy-duty London bars and keeps.
The entry method used against your property specifically cannot be repeated on the hardware we fit.
Do I need to change all my locks after a burglary or just the ones that were forced?
At minimum, replace the damaged ones. Also replace any lock where stolen keys fit — check whether the intruder had access to a key safe or hook inside the property. For peace of mind, we can change all external cylinders in a single visit for a package price.
How long does it take to secure a property after a burglary?
Most single-door jobs take 30–60 minutes on-site. A full secure-up covering multiple entry points typically takes 1–2 hours.
We’ll give you an accurate time estimate when you call with the details.
Can you come out at night or on weekends?
Yes — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
A modest out-of-hours supplement of £20–£30 applies for evening, overnight and weekend callouts.
Do I need a Crime Reference Number before you attend?
No — we attend and secure the property regardless.
However, get your Crime Reference Number from the police as soon as possible as you’ll need it for your insurance claim. We can wait on-site if the police are expected shortly.
